Raw Food For Weight Loss?

By Opal Tribble • Aug 28th, 2007 • Category: Healthy Weight Loss Tips, Resources

I thought I would include this video. I stumbled upon it last year a few months after I switched to an all raw diet. Although the reasons I switched to raw foods was not for weight loss I noticed improvements. I was mildly surprised since I’m already very healthy.

My former co-worker lost 80 pounds in about six months by mainly eating an all raw diet. I included a simple meal plan that she found effective she was able to eat a lot of food because fruits and vegetables are naturally lower in calories. She was ecstatic.

Living On Live Foods

I gave her my copy of Alissa’s Cohen’s book Living On Live Food and purchased another. I’ve never struggled with my weight loss but I found the book to be inspiring.

It’s 574 pages and loaded with simple recipes along with numerous testimonials from people who have converted to eating all raw or a high amount of raw foods.

Many of the testimonials came from people who wanted to lose weight, not only did they lose weight but they also experienced noticeable health improvements.

I liked the book so much that I went on and purchased the Living On Live Foods DVD. There are two. On these DVD’s she shows two women how simple it is to make some of the meals. The ladies were amazed at how simple and delicious these raw food meals were.

The problem I faced on an all raw food diet was weight loss, lol. This was something I did not want to do however when I started adding more fats to my meals such as avocados, nuts, and seeds, and included more fruit smoothies into my daily routine. The weight returned.

I had asked you about dehydrators and for the life of me I could not find that post/comment to see if you replied. lol. If you get a chance can you swing me an email?? Thanks!

  4. I just started looking into all of this recently. I am very interested and will have to check out that book.

  5. Hi Beth,
I use the Excalibur dehydrator. I emailed you a few hours ago.

    Hello Laura,
Please do it’s very informative and Alissa is a wonderful person. If you can get them both. They definitely complement each other and take out the uncertainty that some might experience with raw food cuisine. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. I have a friend who goes to church with me that only eats what he calls green or raw. He grows a lot of his own vegetables and eats them raw, doesn’t steam them or anything. He has been eating like this for probably close to ten years now. He used to be a truck driver and ate lots of greasy fast food. He is at a very healthy weight for his size and says he feels healthier than he has ever felt in his life. There must be something to this raw thing.

  7. Opal, Thanks for stopping by and for your kind thoughts. I will be checking back frequently! I also recommended you to a runner friend of mine that just started the Rave Diet (No Refined foods, No Animal foods, No Vegetable oils, No Exceptions
& Exercise). You have some good stuff on here!

BTW, the smoothie was so simple and so yummy. My husband, daughter, and I loved it!

  8. Weight Master,
It’s definitely a plus if you can grow your own vegetables. Thankfully I am able to. I’ll be adding raw food recipes over the net few days.

    Laura Lohr,
I’ll be back. I really love your website. I have heard of the Rave diet but have not read too much about it. I’ll have to check it out.

I’m glad that you and your family liked the smoothie. I like quick and simple recipes.

  10. This is a pretty interesting concept. I’ve heard a lot of celebrities have had success with it. I would miss pizza too much though

  11. Super Foods help in reducing the weight and also increases the immunity power of a person.

  12. I never had weight problems and I don’t trust these magic diets. Is this better than the 394845 out there?

  13. Crystal,
You might not your taste might change and there is always raw piza.

    moonwalks,
I never had a problem with weight loss either. :-) I would not call this a magi diet since you won’t magically lose weight you do have to make an effort to lose weight.

  14. Its true that raw food has less calories than deeo fried food items..But one must take care to wash the food items..Otherwise it’ll result in infection..

  15. I lost 160lbs with a raw food lifestyle. I went raw five years ago, in 2002. My life has transformed on every single level since then. I now devote my life to sharing this message of healthy weight loss through my website, RawReform.

  16. This is great, exactly what I like to eat. Anything that either grows that way or meat. Pretty much nothing from packaged containers and boxes with a few exceptions. Frozen chicken and canned tuna, whole grain oats, etc.

  17. I do agree with you. Raw food really help to less weight. I always heard of your site but didn’t get chance to read it. Thank you very much for giving me such an opportunity.

  18. Now a days, everyone learns to take care of their health. In this time you really give a wonderful information. Thanks.

  19. I’ve been trying to incorporate more raw foods into my diet too and it does feel good. Your site here looks awesome Opal!

  20. Sriram,
It depends on the type of raw foods you eat. For example I eat vegetable straight from the garden but I don’t receive infection however if I were to purchase my vegetables from the store I would wash them well simply because I don’t know what it has been exposed to. :-) A diet that consists of a lot of fried foods is unhealthy on many levels.

    RawReform,
I’ve been to your website many times. You’ve accomplished a lot and should be commended. I think it it sgreat that you are continuing to promote that message to others. Thanks!

    Zach-Spokane Fitness
Whole foods is definitely the way to go.

    College,
It makes sense on average there is less calories in the vegetables and fruits than cooked foods. I took a break from this website. I needed time to think of the direction I wanted to take it. Now that I’ve figured it out I’ll be posting a more.

    A O Hare,
Thanks, it’s great to see that more people are becoming concerned with their health. I want to do my part in getting the message out there. :-)
    teeni,
Thanks teeni! You caught me! this happened yesterday. :-) Thanks for stopping by.

  22. Eating raw foods, who would have ever thought it could be good for you!! Great vieo thanks

  23. for diet their is no replacement of natural food.

  24. Interesting article, thanks!
I’ve been interested in switching to a raw food diet for quite a long time as I’ve heard so much about the health benefits. Some raw food recipes would be great, as sometimes it can be hard to think of what to eat. But I’d get used to it I suppose!

  25. This is really an Interesting video… Just now visited the Alissa’s Cohen’s book Living On Live Food. Really it is very impressing…

  29. I don’t think I could do an all raw food diet, I really enjoy a good steak but I am kicking up the amount and types of raw food in my daily food consumption. I don’t need to lose weight nor do I have major heath issues. I have just been hearing so much about the benefits of a raw food that I am researching the issue and like what I have seen so far.
